William P. Follansbee, MD, FACC, FACP, FASNC, is a cardiologist certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, and nuclear cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is the Master Clinician Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Director of the UPMC Clinical Center for Medical Decision Making. Dr. Follansbee received his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed both his residency and fellowship training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Follansbee’s clinical interests include a wide range of cardiac diseases including acute and chronic coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, as well as specialized interest in cardiac involvement in systemic diseases, including systemic sclerosis and amyloid heart disease. He is a physician in the Cardiac Amyloidosis Center at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. As director of the UPMC Clinical Center for Medical Decision Making, he has led multiple UPMC initiatives focusing on the topics of diagnostic error, clinical reasoning and medical decision making.

Dr. Follansbee has been selected in every edition of Pittsburgh Magazine’s Top Doctors since the original publication in 1992, and has been voted by his peers as one of America’s Top Doctors every year since the inaugural selection in 2000. In 2020, he received special recognition for having won the award in 20 consecutive years. He has been a recipient of numerous teaching awards as well as the American Heart Association’s Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award.
