Dr. Hirsch is an excellent ENT. I have seen him every four months for the past 5 or so years. (I need regular check-ups to clean out my surgical ear.) He has been nothing shy of exceptional. During my appointments he was always very intentional and treated me like a person, not a patient. I trusted that he had my best interests at heart. What an incredible doctor. Unfortunately yesterday was the last day I could see Dr. Hirsch because UPMC will no longer accept my Highmark Healthcare. I will have to make arrangement to see another ENT specialist because it is imperative I have someone clean out my surgical ear every four months. I didn't foresee my goodbye with Dr. Hirsch being so hard... (It was difficult for me to hold back my tears as I gave him a hug after my appointment, which was strange because I am not normally an emotional person!) I think when you have the opportunity to receive care from a doctor of this caliber, a goodbye after seeing someone every four months for 5 years is extremely emotional! I think the people in charge of the UPMC Healthcare situation could learn a lot from their doctors. Dr. Hirsch truly cares about his patients and sees them as actual people, not money makers.

I have tubes in both ears to alleviate the problem of eustachian tube dysfunction. They only remain in place for a few months, after which they work their way out. At that time they can cause severe discomfort. On this occasion, the right tube was no longer functioning and I was experiencing pulsatile tinnitus, which interfered with my sleep. Dr. Hirsch replaced the tight tube and the left tube as well, which had worked its way out. In a matter of fifteen minutes I went from severe discomfort to feeling completely comfortable.

I will no longer be able to see Dr Hirsh due to health insurance changes. I have been a patient for over 20 years and will miss the quality care I have received.

This was an initial visit to assess my hearing. When there were questions concerning the initial tests, the tests were repeated using different equipment to verify the results. I consider that to represent a high level of integrity and careful practice.
