Khalid Shalaby, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS, is a general surgeon and surgical oncologist certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Shalaby received his medical degree from Medicine Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt and completed his residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, followed by his surgical oncology fellowship at UPMC.
Dr. Shalaby’s clinical interests include general surgery and surgical oncology diseases, including abdominal tumors, colon and rectal cancer, breast cancer, abdominal hernias, and gallbladder disease. He performs both open and laparoscopic surgeries and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Shalaby was very concerned about my weight gain and gave me some instructions about asking my PCP about getting a medication to help.

Everything was excellent, from the Nurse to the Physician's Assistant to the Surgeon. The thing that impressed me most was the compassion that Dr. Shalaby has. He assured me that my procedure was well within his abilities, but he also exudes kindness, which is not something that a lot of doctors have these days.

The doctor only spent about 1 minute with me during the follow-up. Came in, asked me to lift my shirt so he could see my stomach, told me it looked ok, and then told me to have a nice day. He never put his hands on me to palpate to make sure it felt ok.
