Matthew J. Schuchert, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He specializes in all aspects of thoracic surgical oncology, radiofrequency ablation, and CyberKnife.
Dr. Schuchert is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. He completed an undergraduate degree at Yale University, and received a medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery at UPMC, followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive thoracic and foregut surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Schuchert is a member of many surgical societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of University Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. He has written numerous chapters and journal articles on lung and esophageal cancer. Additionally, his research investigates the immunology of lung cancer, and is primarily focused on the development of new therapies for cancer.

Dr Schuchert was wonderful. He had very thorough and understandable explanations of my problem. He included me in decision making. He never rushed me and asked multiple times if I had more questions. He was confident, calm and caring. I was quick to recognize that I could trust him with my care.
