Dr. Smith is the best doctor I have seen at UPMC, and it's not particularly close. He makes decisions based on evidence, knows the data well, and is able to communicate that data to me. For example, he knows the exact percent risk of a serious bleed on a blood thinner based on current evidence (and he's right, because I looked it up myself to check him), and he also knows how that percentage is moderated based on age, demographics, history, dosage etc. At the same time, he does not vehemently push things on people -- he is able to talk me through each decision, present the risks and benefits based on the most up-to-date evidence, and then let me decide what I'm comfortable with. I told him In our last appointment he cannot retire on me, but if he does, I will only see someone he personally refers and trusts. He's a terrific doctor in my opinion.
