Kelly M. Austin, MD, is a pediatric surgeon and is certified in general surgery, pediatric surgery, and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. She is director of pediatric colorectal surgery and surgical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and pediatric surgical director of ECMO at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  She is also associate professor of surgery and director of the Surgical Critical Care Residency Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Dr. Austin received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, and completed her residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland in Ohio, followed by her surgical critical care and pediatric surgery fellowships at University of Missouri at Kansas City/The Children’s Mercy Hospital, Mo. 
Dr. Austin’s clinical interests include pediatric colorectal problems such as Hirschsprung disease, anorectal malformations, neurogenic bowel, and bowel management; as well as, ECMO, neonatal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, chest wall deformities, tumors, and pilonidal disease. She has published numerous articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented at local, national, and international conferences. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Surgical Critical Care Program Directors Society, and Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. She participates on the Steering Committee and Hirschsprung Committee of the PCPLC.  
Dr. Austin lives in the North Hills with her husband and enjoys gardening, beekeeping, raising chickens, and traveling.
