Amit Tevar, MD, is the surgical director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program at UPMC and is certified in multi-organ transplantation and hepatobiliary by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Tevar received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine where he served as chief resident. He completed his fellowship in multi-organ transplant surgery at the University of Chicago and the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Tevar’s clinical interests include solid organ transplantation, minimally-invasive, and hepatobiliary surgery.

They need to be more open and make sure they explain all the risks. I wasn't told one very Critical side effect of having the transplant and didn't find out until 5 years later

I felt like things were a bit backward at my appt, I saw my coordinator and doctor, had all my evaluation and instructions BEFORE my bloodwork! Seems as if they should have seen my results before evaluation and instructions as the results are crucial to what they would tell me. It seemed like a "feel good" visit and not based on my lab values.

Dr. Tevar listens well and explains clearly. His experience, genial nature, and the concern he shows for patients as individuals gave me confidence in my decision to be a living kidney donor at UPMC. I am grateful for his expertise and his continuing care. Also grateful for my nurse coordinator Stacy who is responsive, addresses my concerns, and makes sure everything is going A-OK!

Dr. Tevar was one of the most brilliant doctors I have even spoken to. He really made me feel at ease and comfortable with my decision. He made me feel like "part of his team." I am grateful to have him as a colleague, also being a UPMC employee. He gave me hope in medicine and healthcare again.

Dr. Tevar was fabulous. My nurses were also wonderful. They took the time to talk with me and answer any of my questions. The doctor went over everything with me and made me feel more at ease about the procedure. He had a great demeanor and from my experience I would highly recommend him to anyone.
