Dr. Makaroun is a fabulous surgeon with a truly fantastic surgical team. His nurse and executive assistant are world class. I'm very fortunate and very happy to have found Dr. Makaroun to take care of my aortal aneurysm.

Dr. Makaroun is my vascular surgeon, and is Chief of that specialty at Shadyside. He is terse, very, very competent, and his staff is very, very competent. While he was skeptical in December, 2014 of the vascular doppler scan done outside his office at UPMC-Monroeville imaging (it showed a 40% loss), he scheduled me immediately for cathordization after we discussed the options, and put in a stent which is working well (my blood flow is back to normal now). Moreover, there is evidence that my body is rebuilding pathways from the artery in the affected leg. My mind is at rest, and the course of action we discussed of determined activity (tennis 3 x week) and more focused attention to controlling my glucose levels is working. His office is composed of very capable, smart technicians who answered all my questions and showed me what is going on. I will be seeing them every 6 months for a review of my arterial flows for a very long time, and count myself lucky to have gotten in to see him promptly, and he did what needed to be done.

Since coming to Pittsburgh from Cleveland Clinic we have experienced the best care we have ever had. Our only disappointment would be that we did'nt come sooner
